Nutrition in pregnancy and after birth

Safe, practical eating for you and your baby, from planning a pregnancy to breastfeeding, working with your obstetrician.

Pregnancy brings a lot of food advice from family, friends and the internet, much of it conflicting. Good nutrition supports your health and your baby's growth, and some needs, such as folic acid, iron and calcium, matter more than usual.

Hamna gives clear, evidence-based guidance built around Pakistani food and your symptoms, such as nausea or heartburn. Your obstetrician remains in charge of your pregnancy care, including supplements and any medical conditions.

Who this is for

This service may be right for you if:

  • You are planning a pregnancy or are pregnant
  • You have nausea, poor appetite, heartburn or constipation
  • You have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes or anaemia (alongside your medical team)
  • You are breastfeeding and want to eat well
  • You want to return to a healthy weight after birth, safely

Follow-ups can be timed around your pregnancy appointments. Supplement doses and medical decisions stay with your obstetrician.

Common questions

Do I need to eat for two?
No. Energy needs rise modestly, mainly later in pregnancy. Food quality matters more than quantity.
Can you help with gestational diabetes?
Yes, alongside your obstetrician and diabetes team, who manage monitoring and any medicine.
Is it safe to lose weight during pregnancy?
Weight-loss diets are not recommended in pregnancy unless your obstetrician advises otherwise. The focus is on healthy eating.
Can I fast in Ramadan while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Please discuss this with your obstetrician first. Hamna can help with nutrition if fasting is agreed to be safe.
